Outbreak - fight the viruses

Outbreak - fight the viruses Outbreak is a flash game where you act as a IT admin of a company and your job is to protect your network from viruses. Actually, the game starts when the first viruses have arrived. I found it very hard to keep up. As soon as the viruses arrive you don't really know what to do so you press all kinds of buttons such as "Install Patch" or "Pull the plug".

It's not so much a game, rather more like a interactive and fun advertisement. Nevertheless, it's an impressive advertisement. I wish it would have been a proper sim. Then I'd probably not be writing about it right now, I would be playing it still. It didn't work in Firefox so I had to blow off the dust on internet explorer to get it working again.

Molvania: A land untouched by modern dentistry

Molvania.com shows extracts from a travelling book about the country Molvania. It's very funny, complete with pictures and accommodation reviews like this:

"Another equally cheap hostel is the Majkvic Jverzte, which is located in a peaceful neighbourhood, well away from traffic, noise and crowds. On the downside, it’s a three-hour bus ride to the city outskirts – but at least the rooms are neat and regularly fumigated. Facilities are understandably basic with shared bathrooms and dormitory-style bunks. During the low-season there’s also a 10% discount for students, although this status must be proved with an official ID card or some form of body-piercing."

The FAQ is also worth checking:

"HOW DO I GET THERE?
Most people get to Molvania either by air and by accident."

Windows Noise Becomes Music

Windows Noise Becomes Music Not news, but worth showing. A flash animation where the Microsoft windows sounds are mixed in all kinds of ways to make it sound pretty cool. Really worth the short time it takes to download.

Can someone tell me how they did that. Surely, in some parts of the animation, no man can move the mouse that fast.

The subtitle on Images is "A Journal of Film and Popular Culture". The articles and film reviews are looong so I admit that I haven't fully read a single one. The film reviews look very promising. I couldn't resist to have a peek at Kill Bill vol 2 even though I haven't seen it yet.

What I do really like about this site though is the web design. Yes, the style changes and that's usually a taboo in web design usability; yet it feels like it doesn't matter. Every page is really well done and the content is presented in a very accessible and usable way. There are plenty of images that don't really contribute to the content but that's OK. Very OK!

For example, look at the review of The Last Samurai. It's very colourful and very easy to use.

In conclusion I'd say this site has character. It's bold and confident which too few sites these days are.

Don't bogart that camera my friend

Here's the plot. They print some instructions on a camera and give it to a stranger. The instructions says to take a few pictures and then pass the camera on to another stranger who will do the same. When the reel is out, you drop the camera in a mailbox and it will return to the original owner who develops the film.

The site only has one collection so far that they call Emily and the pictures aren't very fantastic but the concept is.

At the last reunion party for my old school, Grennaskolan, they put disposable cameras on the dinner tables asking people to take random pictures during the evening. Very results because on the tables there was not only cameras. There were glasses filled with stuff that makes people take pictures they might regret the day after.

A whole website about Shallots

Round shallot Amazing! This is a whole website just about the shallot onion.

"This site offers a wealth of interesting information about shallots in general and their use in particular."

Amazing what the Internet has come to; and I love it! One could think that the site was just an excuse for someone to show off web design skills, but judging from the amount of work gone into the site and really nice recipes I now really think the site is about shallots for the sake of shallots only.

Meatballs "It is warmer in this country than you might think
Sweden is a strange country"

Food from Sweden is a site about Sweden and Swedish cooking. The list of recipes is still small, but the few they have are all genuine typical Swedish dishes. I must say that the pictures are really good. Much much better than mine.

An interesting fact from the Swedeness page : The distance between Malmö in the south and Kiruna in the far north is about a thousand miles. Travel this far in the other direction and you land up in Rome! Sweden is so long that it encompasses six climate zones.

My best throw on 461.82 The people who did the Hit a penguin game have done it again. This time you throw the penguin up between two walls. If you're lucky, the flying penguin might even bounce on the sides and go even higher.

My best throw was 461.82. Can you beat that? ...can you prove it?

Anna Ask model shot Johan Eldh model shot My friends Anna Ask and boyfriend Johan Eldh went to a place where they style you completely and then a proffesional photographer takes your picture. Apparently it was rather expensive, but now that I see the results I must admit that I'm impressed.

If you want to contact them for any non-nude modelling, contact them through me. I take a 25% stake on their fees for referrals :)

About Ricardo Semler and Semco

If you've heard me talking, at length, about Ricardo Semler and his company: Semco, but you haven't or will not be bothered to read the book. Then, this is for you. It's a 13 minute recorded story about Ricardo Semler that is for people who want to learn English; business English in fact.

It sounds to me like this talk is a summary of his two books: Maverick! and Seven-day Weekend. I still insist that you read the book(s), but if you want a good summary and can spare 13 minutes, then this is for you.
