Well there came a time when I looked around
And cursed at what I saw
I've been kicked around some for freedom
And I just lost a war
I came home to find
That my dreams were all shattered
And it looked like I was in for some more
So I dropped out and turned out the lights
And put a lock on my door

Well it's nearly 10 years I've been out here

Waiting for nickels and dimes
And pouring bad whiskey down
I woke up in so many no surprise motels
Sometimes I forget where I am
I spend most my time staying stoned
And not givin' a damn

But I bought me a paper today
I guess to find out what's been happening

The dollar's still shrinking

Who's not too much older than me
And the congressman I went to school with
Back about '63
Now if he was to tell me
My vote makes a difference
I would probably just laugh in his face
But I'll be damn there
If I didn't go down there and sign up today
