In my youth I was always called white because I...wore clothes that fit and ..I used correct grammar and used manners
Mitch is a white name apparently but not the way my parents see it I mean they just wanted their son to have a nice name. And speakin of parents yes I have both. Both successful and smart
But from a young age I was the only black student in my classes. White suburbia. Everybody hates Chris was my reality. Not a fallacy. Didn't bother me though I mean it's all I knew. Where people were just people to me. And I was a person. Not a black person or a non-White person but a person just the same as them. As I got older I recognized my culture and color a bit more
Middle schoolers introduced a few more black students than I was used to. I refused to ignore them because I mean how could I... They looked like me and I was on the football team with em so why not. I got.. To know them a learned that we had a ton in common. Music, sports, interests. I fit in a good bit but
Not all of them sounded like me. I talked "white" and they talked "black" or something like that. I dressed white and they dressed black I guess. Whatever that means. That's just what the white students told me. "You're white Mitch you're not black!".. But I was black wasn't I? I'd look in the mirror and I certainly wasn't just tan. I was black I thought
"You ever wish you were white Mitch? You ever think God made a mistake with you and you're supposed to be white ?"
What kinda.. What sorta question was that? God doesn't make mistakes as far as I know. Does he? No no he doesn't. No I'm black and proud . But before all things I am a human being. My soul is colorless I think. And now that I'm 20 I've leaned how to separate things. I am a person yes and we are all people. But I am also proud to be if African decent . I'm proud of my skin and knotted hair. I am black and that's a fact. But my soul is colorless
