To Walk In The Wood

A Short Hike
Looking back on the days that are gone
Finding sunset reflecting the dawn
I can always recall how it was in the fall
With the sky clearly painted and drawn

Oh, the leaves on the trees on the ground
From the limb to the lawn, homeward bound
And a cool autumn noon finds a clinging cocoon
With the camouflage no longer 'round

Yes, it is good to walk in the wood
To sit and remember the now understood
And gaze at the trees in a rustling breeze
It seems to remind me to fall to my knees

Looking back on the days that have passed
I remember the straw on the grass
And the brown in the yard and the birds took it hard
So they left and the season laughed last

Oh, the cat in the sun on the floor
And the dog with his smile at the door
And a windowpane frame for a picture the same
As the pictures of autumns before

Yes, it is good to walk in the wood
To sit and remember the now understood
And gaze at the trees in a rustling breeze
It serves to remind me to fall to my knees

Looking back on the days that are through
I remember the brown and the blue
And the clouds with no trace of a prominent face
As the long, lonely, icy ones grew

Oh, the still and the quiet and the hush
And the woods without worries or rush
And the wildflowers bent with the beauty now spent
Being humbly and happily crushed

Yes, it is good to walk in the wood
To sit and remember the now understood
And gaze at the trees in a rustling breeze
It seems to remind me to fall to my knees
