Mogadishu

Travelling
Fatima has fallen down again
Face down in the dust on the tracks
Of the Mogadishu plains
There where the crops are not growing
There where the rain's not coming
She don't know where this is gonna end

Fatima is bravely struggling on
Left two children behind to try
To save the smallest one
What a choice to have to make
It haunts her each step she takes
But she had to take the chance
For the baby's sake

Now every crumb, every drop, every coin,
Everything we could do without
It's every one of these little things
That would make a big difference now
I say Whoa oh oh
Is that how it goes, is that how it goes

Fatima is stumbling on again
Though she's starving, worn and weak,
Strength coming to an end
Still carrying her precious one
She faints in the blistering sun
It'll be over soon if help won't come

Now every crumb, every drop, every coin,
Everything we could do without
It's every one of these little things
That would make a huge difference now
I say Whoa oh oh
Is that how it goes, is that how it goes

Hugging her child, barely alive
Checking all the time if he's still breathing
In our daily grind
Tell me what compares to this

Fatima is rising up again
Her spirit now free to fly over all the suffering
Will at least one of her children be
Her lineage, her legacy
Or will they soon soar to meet her in the wind

Now every crumb, every drop, every coin,
Everything we could do without
It's every one of these little things
That would make all the difference now
I say Whoa oh oh
Is that how it goes, is that how it goes
